Yes, use braille for choir and for piano. Get the Dictionary of Braille
Music Signs by Bettye Krolick and go for it. Your teacher doesn't need to
read braille music and if you waited for her to learn it you'd never
progress. Don't forget we're also here to help if you get stuck.
Good luck!
Teresa

No teacher I have ever had was familiar with braille music in the slightest.
It's up to the student to use the code, not the instructor, in my opinion.

Learning by ear will become an increasing problem as you learn more complex
pieces. In classical music there is no room for improvisation, unlike in
jazz or some other genres

Eello,
I have a question for all of you. I have had the same piano teacher ever
since third grade. When I was in middle school, we both decided that
reading Braille music would just not be an option since she had no idea how
I would manage. Therefore, she just continued teaching me my music by ear.
However, now that I have taken the Hadley course, I am able to read more
Braille music. Therefore, how would I go about beginning to use Braille
music at my piano lessons? Would I have to follow a gradual process or can I
suddenly jump right into using Braille? Also, I still need to bearn the
specifics of keyboard music but I would imagine that since I have already
learned the basics, it will be easier to learn the symbols specific to each
stinrument. Do you agree with that? Also, is there anything wrong with
using Braille music for choir but continuing to learn piano music by ear?
It's not that I don't want to take the time for Braille music for piano,
it's just that cy teacher is simply unfamiliar with the code so it would
slow us down a lot. Where can my teacher learn Braille music should we
decide to start using it?
Thanks in advance,
Kelsey Nicolay
